LA FOLLE JOURNÉE au JAPON

The music festival of a classical music was first he 1995 in Nantes, a port town located in Northwest region of France.It is based on a unique concept that overturns conventional thinking on classical music. Retaining its title of "La Folle Journee (Days of Enthusiasm), it has developed into one of the most exciting music festivals among the numerous offerings in Europe.Each year, the festival decides on a composer who will be the main focus of the festival. The staging of the event in Tokyo will have the theme: "Mozart and His Friends."At the Tokyo International Forum several concerts will be held simultaneously from morning until just before the last train departs at night. The event has the cooperation of the surrounding area (Otemachi, Marunouchi, Yurakucho, Hibiya, Ginza) in planning a varied program of associated events to bring the true joy of music to many people.

Kanda Matsuri

At Kanda Myojin Shirine. One of Tokyo's three largest festivals. Features 70 portable shrines and a dance performance by geisha.

Sanjya Matsuri

This festival is held at Asakusa, which is one of the three largest festivals in Tokyo. More than 100 portable shrines are paraded while festive music and dances are performed. Three gigantic shrines are brought out on the last day, accompanied by great celebration and huge crowds.

Sanno Matsuri

This festival is held in mid June at Hie Shrine every other year, is well-known as one of the three largest festivals of Edo, together with Fukagawa Hachiman Matsuri and Kanda Matsuri.The Festival features a parade dressed in period costumes, with the gilded portable shrines ornamented with phoenixes on top.

Iriya Asagao Matsuri

This festival originated due to the reputation of a gardener who cultivated Japanese morning glories in the Iriya area during the early Meiji era. It attracts many people to its huge numbers of beautiful bright blooms every summer.

Hozuki Ichi

This festival is held at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. The ground of the temple and the main approaches are filled with more than 300 stalls selling potted "hozuki" (ground cherry plants). Hozuki is also called as Chinese lantern plants, and has orange, lantern-shaped blossoms.

Sumida River Firework Display

The largest firework display in Tokyo. About a dozen big firework displays are held in Tokyo from late July to mid-August.

Asakusa Samba Carnival

Downright hilarious Latin rhythm fills the town of Asakusa. It is a Fancy Samba carnival. Samba team from Rio de Janeiro will be invited. Powerful dancing groups from every region in the country will get together in the town. Samba and various attractions will boost the festive mood on Saturday.

Fukuro Festival

Fukuro Matsuri is an annual big event that takes place in the west square of Ikebukuro Station. The Main feature, Tokyo Yosakoi competition, comes on Sunday. A great number of teams from all over the country will present amazing dance.

19th Tokyo International Film Festival

TIFF was established in 1985, and celebrates its 19th anniversary this year. As one of the largest international film festivals in the world.TIFF has left a large footprint in the Japanese film industry and culture in general. This festival is held at Shibuya Bunkamura and Roppongi hills.

Takao Momiji Matsuri

A number of autumn events will be held at Mt. Takao located in Hachioji City, where Japanese maple leaves beautifully turned red at their best. The best season for "momiji" watching in Mt.Takao is mid-late November every year. Fully enjoy the splendid view from the mountaintop or from the cable car window.

At Boroichi Street on Setagaya. The Houjyou, a feudal lord of Odawara castle started the market here in 1578. Antique and plants are sold.

Ohshima Tsubaki Matsuri

This festival is a popular big event of Oshima held in the season of the Island's famous camellia flowers. Various other events such as parades, camellia dying workshops and camellia contests will be held in many places in the island.

Daruma doll is a popular wish fulfillment charms for Japanese. People fill one eye on a daruma doll when they set up a goal or wish, then the other when it is fulfilled. At Nishiarai-taishi Temple. Good luck Dharuma doll is sold. The old Dharuma doll will be dedicated.

TOKYO MARATHON 2007

Some 30,000 runners from Japan and abroad, both men and women, are expected to compete in the TOKYO MARATHON 2007, one of the largest city marathons in Asia, which will follow a course past Tokyo’s main tourist attractions such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office Building, Imperial Palace, Ginza and Asakusa. In addition, the Tokyo Big Marathon Festa, in which various events will be held centering on the TOKYO MARATHON 2007, will provide many opportunities to discover the charms of Tokyo amid a blend of sports and culture.

Hachijojima Freesia Festival

This Festival is held in an area covering 7,200 square meters where some 320,000 freesia are planted. The colorful flowers herald the arrival of spring on Hachijo Island. Visitors are allowed to pick up to 20 freesia flowers for free.
